C. Kimball, Joseph Leary, Clyde T. O'Nan Absent: Clyde T. C'Nan The minutes of November 20th, 1944 were read and approved as read. Mrs. Le Roy Dart of the Fremont School P. T. A. presented a .petition with 47 sig- natures asking that guard be provided at hionterey & Essex Streets during the time children are going to and from school, and also to have "Slow" and "School Crossing" signs placed at safe distance-from the intersection for a warning to motorist. Hours requested, 8:30 to 9 A. 11.;,12 noon to 1 P. LI.; and from 2:30 to 4:30 P.M. The petition Vas granted and the Police Dept. instructed -to make temporary arrangement.for a guard until permanent arrangements can be made. On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Strader was granted on motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by Ralph 1. Kennedy; work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineering Department and ;xisting ordinance. On motion of R. P. Howell, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy the following petitions were ranted; work to be done under the supervision of the City Engineering Department. Plumbing Co. - To excavate street for sewer line at 545 Lorro St.for Vim. Lopez cific comas Fr, Elec. Co. - To do certain pole work on uhorro St. between Upham and High Streets. On motion of Ralph C. Kennedy, seconded by R. P. Howell, the certified check in the ount of 5.900 posted in lieu of L.dse. bond by Santa Maria Auto Parts ( Leonard S. Petersen) s accepted and license ordered issued. The. following applications for transfer of city licenses were granted on motion of (Joseph Leary, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy: Transfer of Dennis Transfer Co. ( R. L. Dennis) at 1824 Nipomo at. to John P. Hemstreet Transfer of S. L. 0. 'Hired Music Co. ( M. H. Stearns) for i/lechanical Amusement Devices and Ivlusic Vending Machines to John Patrick. The card of thanks received from Elwood P:lunch and Le Roy Munch and Mrs. Bullock was ordered received and filed. Communication from Harry Gillis, President of the Taxi Owners Assn. re: Mission Cab Co. using all the parking space in front of the Greyhound Bus Station was presented to the Council; and on motion of Mayor F. C. Kimball, seconded by Ralph C. Kennedy the City Attorney was instructed to draw up a4 emergency ordinance making all of the parking 1 1 1 1 u 1 1 1 1 1 area for the loading and unloading of passengers; this for the purpose of Public 3`'d Good. Communication from Faulkner, OQ-ke s & Faulkner, Accountants, re: auditing of the city records was ordered received and filed on motion of Ralph C. KEn nedy, seconded by R. P. Howell. Communication from the 0. P.A. ( Ration Board) relative to continuation of clerk at ration board for period of three months; it was ordered by the Council to continue this appointment for six months period as of November 21, 1944. Ccmm-unication from San Luis Cyclery re: submitting bid on repairs of wrecked motorcycle; the communication vvas referred to Clyde T. O'Nan, Commissioner of supplies. Treasurer's " " " " October, It City Clerk's it IT IT Mayor F. C. Kimball presented a letter from the Department of Commerce Bureau of Census, Washington, D. C. listing the Official Special census returns taken as of October 14,1944; the population was distributed by Race and Sex as follows: Both Sexes pule Female Total population 11,657 52214 63443 4hite 11,503 52 138 6,365 Negro 101 43 58 Other races 53 33 20 Communication was ordered received and filed. Claims against the city for the month of Nov. 1944 were ordered paid subject to the approval of the heads of the respective departments and the Mayor. The Eiayor was authorized to contact the war Supplies Board with a view to deter- mine what used equipment might be purchased from the Government. Guy Root appeared before the Council to explain a proposed Ambulance service for the city and county; the Council agreed to.an arrangement which has been in force, regarding payment on police emergency providing 24 hour service is given. Re: Communication from Mrs. Ernest L. Patchett re: remove tree on Branch Street; Commissioner Howell reported that the tree was removed and communication was ordered received and filed. -'e: Communication from California Poly Technic School relative to the fire fight- ing equipment; matter was again discussed and held over. The following petitions were granted on motion of Joseph Leary, seconded by Ralph C.
