hazard of street crossing on Broad St. between Marsh and Islay Streets was ordered-received
and filed.
The application of Clarence Larson for city licanses for Cafe and Cigars
sideline at 1254 Monterey St. was granted on motion of Kline "'iilliams, seconded by
R.P. Howell.
Dr. H.S. Walters appeared before the Council with a request for emergency
parking zones in front of all doctors' offices and hospitals; the matter was referred to
' the Commissioner of Public Health and Safety for investigation and report.
On motion of Vim. 0. Hall, seconded by G.W.Baker, the meeting adjourned to
October 27, 1947 at 7:30 P.L. upon the following roll call vote:

' The City Council met in adjourned session; Mayor Timothy I. O'Reilly.
Present: G.W.Baker, Vim. 0. Hall, R.P.Howell, Timothy I. G'Reilly,K1ine Williams
Absent: None
Members of the Local Taxicab owners met with the City Council to discuss
their problems and after a prolonged discussion, the cab owners were asked to get to-
gether on some form of a proposed Taxicab Ordinance that would answer their needs and
be acceptable to the Council, and bring'it back for further discussion by the.Council.
Mr. Christie appeared before the Council and reported that the truck owners
have been unable to find a suitable parking lot for their equipment, but they were still
looking. Commissioner Hall stated that-he would meet with him and they would go out and
take a look at property in the Exposition Park District as a possible site.
Members of the City Council were notified by the City Clerk that the State
' Engineers of the Department of Public Works at Sacramento will meet with the Council on
November 3, 1947 to discuss the proposed Free -way through the City.
On motion of Kline Williams, seconded by R. P. Howell, Francis Roy was
appointed a regular Police Officer as of !�ovember 1, 1947 at a salary of $236.00 per month,
base pay, and to be-assigned the duties of "Meter Collection man ".
On motion of G.W.Baker, seconded by Kline Williams, the -Chief of Police
was given permission-to hire another Police Officer.
Commissioner Howell reported to the Council the possibility of obtaining
the lot from Harold Fredrickson on Branch Street at a cost of $1000, providing the city
uld move the present barn on the location. By common consent of the Coancil they decided
he cost was prohibitive, and would not acquire the property.
