City Hall, February 19, 1948 - 7:30 P.M.
The Ctty Council met in adjourned session - Mayor Timothy I. O'Reilly
presiding.
Present: G.IJ.Baker, R.P.Howell, Timothy I. O'Reilly, Kline Williams
Absent: Wm. 0. Hall
0. L. Richardson of Selma, California appeared before the Council re-
questing appointment to the position of Chief of Police, stating he would consider a
starting salary of 8400 Der month. He was assured by the Mayor and Council his applicati
would be given due consideration.
Communication from Paul K. Jackson, acting Police Judge, tendering his resig
nation as of March 1, 1948 was presented to the Council and on motion of G. W. Baker,
seconded by R.P.Howell it was ordered the resignation be accepted.
Communication from A. Eugene Roberts applying for the position as Police
Judge was presented to the Council. The Mayor moved to nominate A Eugene Roberts for
the position of Police Judge as of March 1, 1948, and on motion of G.W.Baker, seconded by
Kline Williams, the nomination was approved by the Council.
Communication from Albert H. Carberry, applying for position in any city
department was read to the Council and on motion of G.[,,?.Baker, seconded by Kline Williams
the communication was ordered received and filed.
Communication from San Luis Obispo, American Legion Post No. 66, asking the
Council to grant a Carnival license as applied for, was presented to the Council, and
on motion of Kline Williams, seconded by G.W.Baker, it was moved that the license as
applied for, be granted.
The petition filed by S.J. Lusardi et al protesting the operations of
any carnival in the vicinity of Monterey and Grove Streets was ordered received and filed
on motion of R.P.Howell, seconded by G.W.Baker.
Communication from City Planning Commission stating it was the unaimous
opinion of the Commission that both Chorro and Broad Streets remain open in the event the
new Freeway is constructed through the City and on mention of Kline Williams, seconded by
G.W.Baker, it was moved the Council endorse the Commission's opinion.
Petition filed by Frances Bressi et al requesting the Council to recommend
to the State Highway Commission that Broad St. be kept open where it crosses the proposed
Freeway was received and filed and copies be furnished the Mayor to forward to the
Division of Highways. On motion of Kline Williams, seconded by G.W.Baker, the Mayor
was authorized to submit a letter to the Division of Highways, Sacramento, outlining the
City's proposal ( regarding the Freeway through the city) for their consideration.
Communication from League of California Cities Re: Local Enforcement of
State Health Regulations making State funds available through the County was presented
to the Council and on motion of G.W.Baker, seconded by R.P.Howell the following
Resolution was adoDted:
Resolution No. 832 (New Series) - A Resolution providing for the en-
forcement od laws and regulations relating to Public Health by the County Health 09ficer
within the City of San Luis Obispo was passed and adopted on motion of G.W.Baker,.seconded
by R.P.Howell upon t )ae following roll call vote:
Ayes: G.W.Baker, R.P.Howell, Timothy I. O'Reilly, Kline Williams
Noes: Nond
Absent: Wm.O.Hall
On motion of R.P.Howell, seconded by G.W.Baker, the meeting adjourned.
