The Committee feels that ...i.t:.would._be_difficult to construct any effective type of pro- tection which would not be unsightly. It is also. felt that this is a private problem and something that the city would not want to get into any more so than in dozens of other similar locations in the city. The Vehicle Code provides that a city can pass an ordinance making it a misdemeanor to park a car improperly on a grade of more than 3%. We believe this would be one practical method of attacking the problem. The Police Department has been advising residents of proper parking methods, but we feel that a statute with some teeth in it would also be advisable. Lucksinger The following is a report of the traffic committee: 56- 5 -5TIn Connection with the new traffic signal at Monterey and California, the following suggestions are made in order to expedite traffic flow. It is recommended that the Council pass a resolution authorizing additional red zones approximately 48 feet along the south side of Monterey west of the inter- section with California and along the north side of Monterey east of the California intersection and approximately 60 feet north on California from Monterey, along 1-D the west side of California. It is also suggested that as an administrative matter, the public works department be authorized to paint double lines at all four of the intersecting streets ex- tending back about 100 feet, and a single line on Monterey at both entrances to the California intersection extending back about 50 feet. The attached sketch illustrates what the traffic committee has in mind. 1 1 fl 1 1
