_ At the request of Miss Eva Andre, who was present at the City Council meeting, the following
statementwas made by the City Attorney regarding City responsibility for maintenanceof
sewer mains in the City system;
"It is the duty of the City to not only install but to maintain any
and all sewer mains in the City in a workable condition ".
iq,q The training report of the Fire Department for the month of July, 1956, was ordered re-
ceived and filed.
The request of Mr. Richard D. Miller, City Administrative Officer, for permission to ad-
vertise for installation of sewer and water mains for.the industiral tract was approved on
motion of Kenneth W. Jones, seconded by Nels Beck. The appropriate officials were authorized
to secure the necessary easements in the name of theCity in order to complete this project.l
Mr. Miller, City Administrative Officer, reported to the Council regarding his investigation
on barber poles which are placed too low on buildings making them a hazard to.pedestrians
and stating that each barber shop has been notified to have thebarber pole raised to at
least eight feet above the City street by the 15th day of August, 1956.
Mr. Richard D. Miller reported on the request for the old fire wagon to take part in the
Pinedorado celebration at Cambria, California and also to attend the Santa Barbara fiesta.
City Council on motion of Warren G. Edwards, seconded by Lowell E. Christie, authorized
the fire wagon to take part in these parades if the firemen concerned are willing to vol-
untee their services.
Mr. Richard D. Miller further reported that the City had made arrangements to buy the old
time uniform shirts and would try to buy four old fire hats.
The study committee was set for Monday, August 13,.1956, to study curb, sidewalk and tree
policy of the City. The meeting was set.for 7:30 P.M.
Mr. Richard D. Miller reported to the Council regarding the extension of the fire alarm
system. between Station No. 1 and 2. Mr. Miller stated that when this system is completed
and working that he was going to ask for a resurvey by the Board of Fire Underwriters for
a proposed reduction of insurance rate.
On motion of Warren G. Edwards, seconded by Nels Beck, the meeting was adjourned.
