The City Council met in regular session with Mayor Fred H. Lucksinger presiding.

The claims against the City for the month of January, 1958, were ordered paid, subject

to the approval of the Administrative Officer, on motion of Kenneth W. Jones, seconded
by Richard G. Sleight.
Minutes of the December 16, 1957, meeting were approved as presented.
COIVUNICATIONS
1. Comm. from Dollie McKeen requesting consideration of a loading zone at 1212 Garden
Street, for the convenience of her tenants since parking meters are placed on this street
was referred to the Traffic Committee for investigation and report.

2. Comm. from San Luis Obispo County Medical Society regarding the recommended
appointment of Joseph Middleton as Civil Defense Medical Chief. Commander Gullickson
Assistant Director of Civil Defense recommends appointment 6f Dr. Middleton as Chief of
Medical for the Civil Defense organization. Recommendation approved on motion of
Richard G. Sleight, seconded by Kenneth W. Jones.
Introduction of Resolution No. 324 (1958 Series). A Resolution Increasing the 1957 -58
Budget was passed and adopted on motion of Kenneth 'r:. Jones, seconded by Richard G. Sleit

Introduction of Resolution No. 325 (195$ Series). A Resolution Authorizing The Mayor
To Accept And Consent To Recordation Of Deeds Or Grants To The City Of San Luis Obispo
was passed and adopted on motion of Richard G. Sleight, seconded by Kenneth W. Jones.

Report by the Police Department recommending denial of a card table license for
Clifford F. Connors. On motion of Kenneth W. Jones, seconded by J. Barry Smith, request
for card table license was denied.
Council's approval of payment of legal services for the Johnson Avenue Sanitary project
to Kirkbride, Wilson, Harzfeld & Wallace. Payment approved on motion of Kenneth W. Jones,
seconded by Nels Beck.
On motion of Kenneth W. Jones, seconded by Richard G. Sleight, the following salary step
increases were granted:
Patricia J. Clark, City Librarian, f ro m step 2 $495 to step 3 $524 effective
February 1, 1958.
William H. Woodward, Fireman, from step 4 $375 to step .5 .6396 effective
February 1, 1958. -
Earl J. Iunker, Fireman, from step 4 $375 to step 5 $396 effective February 1, 1958
Patrick J. Dempsey, Fireman, from step 1 $317 to step 2 $336 effective
February 1., 1958.
Request for David F. Romero, City Engineer, and approved by Richard D. Miller,
Administrative Officer, that Mr. Romero attend the Tenth Annual Street and Highway
Conference in Los Angeles, January 29 to. 31, 1958, inclusive. Request was granted on
motion of Nels Beck, sec nded by Kenneth W. Jones.
Richard D. Miller, Administrative Officer, announced the appoint of Mona Nelson as
stenographer in the City Clerk's office, effective January 1, 1958, at the first step
4240 per month .

Final passage of Ordinance No. 69 (1957 Series). An Ordinance Permitting Bars and
Restaurants as Accessory Uses to Hotels and Motels in R -4 Districts was Passed and
adopted on the motion of Richard G. Sleight, seconded by Nels Beck.

Comm. from Foster and Kleiser Company regarding status of the Mission Panel to be placed
on Chorro Street adjacent to the Mission Plaza. Mr. Joe Baldini reported that allthat is
required is for the lease agreement to be completed by the property owner, and when that
is signed they will proceed. Letter was ordebed received and filed.
Resolution No. 326 (1958 Series). A Resolution Increasng the 1957 -58 Budget was passed
and adopted on motion of Nels Beck, seconded by J. Barry Smith.
