6. At this time the Council'discussed the acquisition of life interest'of '
Mrs. Pezzoni by the City for development of a parking lot and whether
all the property was being put to use by the City which is being condemned.
City Attorney Houser stated that all the Pezzoni parcel that will be
used by the City is being condemned, leaving a parcel on the northwest
corner 35 x 100 feet still with life interest attached thereto.
Mrs. Mae Nielson appeared before the Council objecting to the methods
employed by the-City in condemning Mrs. Pezzoni's life interest in her
property. She stated that no one from the City had ever attempted to
contact or discuss the matter with Mrs. Pezzoni and that the only way
she could find out what was;;going on was by reading it in the local
newspaper. She further believed that a person who lived in the •'
community as long as Mrs. Pezzoni should be afforded the courtesy of
personal contacts by the City Administration.
Mayor Waters answered that he had always been more than willing to
meet with Mrs. Pezzoni and had in fact made several attempts to meet
with her and with her attorney, Richard Harris, but that each attempt
of contact made by-him had been postponed by her;attorney for one
reason or another.
Mrs. Bilodeau appeared before the Council objecting to the City condemning
the life interest of Mrs. Pezzoni for construction of another parking
lot for'the downtown merchants.
Mrs. Bilodeau stated that after living in her home for 49 years, Mrs.
Pezzoni should be allowed to live out the few remaining years of her
life in the peace and quiet of her own home and not be forced out by
the City.
On motion of Donald Q. Miller, seconded by J. Barry Smith, the meeting adjourned
at 10:10 P.M.
Approved this 2nd day of May, 1960.
