plan line ordinance and suggested methods of implementing the setback ordinance.
The meeting adjourned to 7:30 P. M., August 15, 1961 on motion of Councilman
Miller, seconded by Councilman Graves.

CITY STAFF PRESENT: Administrative Officer Millei, City Engineer Romero,
Water Superintendent Thompson, City Clerk Fitzpatrick,
Consulting Engineer Robert Edmonston.

1. Mr. Miller, Administrative Officer, presented a proposal of the State Division
of Highways for street lighting on the proposed Madonna Road interchange to
include lighting of approaches. Mr. Miller reported on discussions with State
Highway representatives regarding.the matter.
2. Mr. Romero, City Engineer, made the following recommendation to the City
Council to accept the proposal of the Division of Highways: "I have reviewed
the Division of Highways proposal for street lighting of Madonna Road,
bearing in mind the City policy of lighting major streets to provide greater
safety for the motoring - .public': Since the Division of Highways will absorb
all costs of the initial installation and has made a somewhat lenient in-
terpretation of their normal policy regarding sharing of power costs, I
believe that there is considerable advantage to the City to accept their
offer and would so recommend.
On motion of Councilman Miller, seconded by-Councilman Graves, the meeting ad-
journed at 10:30 P. M. to 10 a. m., August 16, 1961.
It was moved by Councilman Miller, seconded by Councilman Graves, that the
recommendation of the City Engineer be accepted. Motion passed.

Mayor Davidson stated to the City Council that he had discussed with Mr.
Drake, Chairman of the Board of Supervisors, the possibility of taping the
County Water District Meeting to be held Wednesday, August 23, and he reported
that Mr. Drake felt that this would be a good idea.

The City Council met with Mr. Robert Edmonston, Consulting Water Engineer,
and discussed the over -all water matters affecting the City of San Luis

Obispo, including use of water from the Santa Margarita Lake, the possibility
of establishing standards for recreation at Santa Margarita Lake and the matter,
of the license for water at Santa Margarita Lake.
The City Council also discussed other water problems involving expansion
of water services within the City. The City Council discussed in general terms
the
possibility of formation of a County -Wide water authority for development of
all
water potential in the County for use of the entire County.
On motion of Councilman Miller, seconded by-Councilman Graves, the meeting ad-
journed at 10:30 P. M. to 10 a. m., August 16, 1961.
