for the development of the City of San Luis Obispo, that he would suggest that
the City coordinate and integrate the student body and faculty of Cal Poly
with the development of the overall plan as presented by his firm. He stated
that with the cooperation of the student body and faculty in this project, it
would increase the cultural and educational aspect of the City.
Mayor Davidson thanked Mr. Williams and his staff for their exciting present-
, ation of what could be done in the City of San Luis Obispo. He then asked
if anyone had any questions they wished to ask the Architect and his staff
regarding their presentation.
The various members of the audience questioned Mr. Williams for clarification
of various elements of his proposal.
Mayor Davidson stated that the City Council has gone on record as wanting to
develop the City of San Luis Obispo in the most progressive way.
Mayor Davidson continued that while he was quite excited about the plan as
presented, he was sure that as a member of the City Council, he would wish to
receive the support of the people of San Luis Obispo before proceeding with
this tremendous program.
Councilman Graves stated that while the audience at this presentation was quite
small in number, that they were a select group of citizens and he asked that
they go out and discuss this proposal with their friends and groups of which
they may be members. He also stated he would be happy to meet with any group
as would other members of the City Council to present this plan for their
consideration.
Merlyn Carpenter, business man, stated that he thought the project as presented
was eery goody, but that now he and other citizens must take hold of this
proposal and proceed wi.:h whatever elements of the plan that may be implemented
by the citizens and he offered his services to the City in any capacity what-
ever.
Mrs. ^abbri, Presidant of the Civic ?ine <;rts Association, stated that her
group was interested in this development and would like to help develop a
cultural center for the City of San Luis Obispo.
Pis. Robert Corcoran, business man, stated he thought the plan as presented was
excellent and congratulated the City Council for their farsightedness and then
asked if it were possible to have another presentation by Mr. Williams at
a later date afte_ this session had been talked about io that more persons
may be able to attend.
3:15 P. M. Councilman Miller arrived and too!: his seat.
The Ci y C uncil then discussed the advisability of acquiring additional
of the report and the number that should be acquired.
Councilman Graves suggested that the City purclicse thirty six (36) copj.c:.=
distribution to she Ccuncil, Plannin; Cormissior., and =interested groups
individuals.
John Badgley, Prchitect, stated that this is a very excellent plan, but he
believed the plan for implementation is weak and they are leaving too much of
the development to the individual and does not believe the individual person
will be able to follow through. He urged that the City take the lead in the
development of this plan. Iie t!_en reported that he thought this was a good
plan and it bets_er than anything the City had done or contemplated i.n the
pas--. Fe urged taat the City Council proceed with the various elements of
this proposal and urged that the City purchase sufficient copies of the rep
of this plan so that interested citizens and groups could study, discuss ar,.`

Mayor Davidson thanked everyone for attending and taking part in the disc::
and that from these discussions the City Council could see what way the P-...
wanted to go on this plan and he was sure that the many citizens would be :

John Badgley appeared before the City Council aad urged that the Council
purchase one hundred (100) to five hundred (500) copies because the more
information that is available to the citizens on this plan, the more support
the plan will receive.
Councilman Graves and Fdministrative Officer Miller was authorized to procure
cost estimates for reproduction of the one report presented by Smith 6
Williams.
On motion of Councilman Miller, seconded by Councilman Wlelchel, the meeting
adjourned at 4:00 P. M.
