E. F. Gomes, 60 Casa Street, rile No. 129, stated he was not
objecting to the installation of curb and driveway ramp, but
asked that the City Council grant him permission to install a 301
driveway at his motel, as he has purchased the adjacent property
and there is a 151 easement for utilities between the properties
that cannot be used for anything except driveway, and therefore asked
permission to include this in the driveway ramp.
City Engineer Romero stated he had no objection and felt this would
make a good improvement for both motels.
On motion of Councilman Spring, seconded by Councilman Gallagher,
the Council granted a driveway exception to a 30t width. Motion
carried.
Mrs Rose MCKeen, 12!10 Laurel Lane; File No. 120, asked the City
Council to grant her a temporary delay in installing the sidewalks
as they are tentatively planning on enlarging their shopping center
which would include this property and she did not wish to remove
the existing curb, gutter and sidewalk when the jptbmmercial develop-
ment takes place.
On motion of Uouncilman Gallagher, seconded by Councilman Spring,
the request was granted and Mrs McKeen was given a six month
extension before completion of the sidewalk. Motion carried on the
following roll call vote:
A YBS: Frank Gallagher, Arthur F Spring, Clell
W. Whelchel,
NOES: Emmons Blake, Donald Q Miller
ABSENT: None
5. At this time, the City Council held a public hearing on Resolution
No. 11167, a Resolution setting a public hearing to ascertain whether
the public necessity, health or safety requires the removal of overhead
wires and associated structures from the area bounded by Monterey Street
Broad Street, Higuera Street and Oiorro Street, and requiring
underground installation of wires and facilities for replacing electrid
communication or similar and associate services.
Mayor Whelchel declared the public hearing open.
Planning Director Chapman presented a map of the boundaries of the
proposed Underground Utility District No. 1
There being no comments from the audience, Mayor Whelchel declared
the public hearing closed.
City Attorney Houser explained the provisions of the ordinance
establishing the Underground Utility District No. 1
On motion of Councilman Spring, seconded by Councilman Miller, the
following Ordinance was introduced; Ordinance No. 3271 An Ordinance
establishing Underground Utility District No. 1
Introduced and passed to print on the following roll call vote:
AYES: Emmons Blake, Frank Gallagher, Donald Q Miller
Arthur F Spring, Clell W Whelchel
NOES: None
ABSENT: None
6 Mr. Richard Lutz Coordinator, economic Opportunity Office, appeared
before the City Council presenting facts about a proposal to
establish a Job Corps Center at Camp San Luis Obispo.
