Subject: Islay Park needs attention
Dear Mayor and Council Members,
Jeff Hendricks and Adam Basden met several of the Arbors neighbors Tuesday afternoon. Many residents are alarmed at the
deplorable condition of this City park. We appreciate the time spent by Jeff and Adam reviewing our concerns.
The list of maintenance /repair items seems endless:
- Branches continue to fall over pedestrian bridge. The creek needs to be cleared.
-Paths are disappearing into weeds, concrete is cracked, leaves cover paths and the trail is surrounded by dead trees and bushes.
- Playground equipment is in need of an audit for safety concerns. All surfaces are worn.
-Lawn and baseball diamond are now weed filled
-The park sign is concealed by bushes
-the open space trail has a wash -out and hole with a 6" drop off of path
Please take the time to visit this park and walk along trail to Spanish Oaks. Do not wait until 2018 to fund maintenance for this park.
This is an embarrassment for the city in my opinion.
Please hire more maintenance personnel. The city council has shown willingness to spend money outside of budget for rental
inspectors while our park disintegrates and open space trails deteriorate.
Sending $75,000 to Pismo Beach for open space purchase was a huge disservice to our own city residents in my opinion.
Sincerely,
Mary Lou Johnson
