Subject: Please vote to endorse AB 1648, the CA DISCLOSE Act
Dear Councilmember Marx,
We will never have truly effective representative government unless voters stop being deceived about
who is paying for all that political advertising. A.B. 1648, the disclosure bill, would do exactly that.
AB 1648 just requires the three largest funders of political ads to be clearly identified with their names and
logos ? on the ads themselves, so voters know who is actually paying for them. That makes sense.
Over $235 million was spent on California ballot measures in 2010 alone, almost all of it by special
interests hiding behind innocuous - sounding names to fool the voters about who really paid for their ads
It is time for true reform. I strongly urge you to vote for endorsing A.B. 1648
