I am writing to urge the City Council to support the City's acquisition of the Goldtree Vineyard Tract- Business
Item B3 on the June 5th, 2012 Council meeting agenda. This is a terrific opportunity - especially given the very
reasonable sale price. .
The hills above Johnson Avenue are a very valuable resource that can never be replaced once lost to
development. San Luis Obispo must dare to be different and decline to follow what other cities have done to
ruin their beautiful hillsides. Development at any elevation above existing homes is a safety hazard in terms of
potential wildfires and landslides. Many of us in this neighborhood have watched wildfires burn directly above
our homes more than once!
The required $67,500 that already exists from funds collected via the Measure Y sales tax should be allocated
for expansion of the City's greenbelt without question! Before Measure Y passed, I do recall that the vast
majority of city residents cited protecting our valuable open space as a top priority. The City Council will
hopefully honor this request and protect this highly sensitive and visible property.
Respectfully,
Carol Rich
