Subject: In Support of Divestment
To the San Luis Obispo City Council,
My name is Ande Fieber and I am a undergraduate at Cal Poly, and I am writing to ask you to please listen
carefully to the supporting arguments for divestment of the city of San Luis Obispo. This is an excellent tool for
creating a more socially and environmentally responsible community, and as someone who has worked on a
number of climate activism projects on campus over the years (including divestmentl), I strongly urge you to
consider the positive impact this action would have on the entirety of SLO, the county, and our schools.
Investing in responsible companies sets an important example for governments, businesses, and individuals, and
I would be very proud of the City of San Luis Obispo if I could confidently say we have no financial holds in
climate- changing, oil- train - bringing fossil fuels. I want to be able to tell my friends and family that I live in a
place where we talk about being green and are able to prove that fact with a transparent and ethically sound
portfolio that cuts out an industry that has caused such consistent and repeated harm to our environment and
health.
Please take this courageous step forward and make San Luis Obispo a city that sets the precedent for a future of
clean energy and responsible business practices. I trust that you will come to the right decision on this issue, and
thank you very much for your time.
Best,
Ande Fieber
