From: Charlene Rosales[mailto:charlene@slochamber.org] Sent: Tuesday, August 18, 2015 2:01 PM To: Johnson, Derek; Gershow, Rebecca Cc: Murry, Kim Subject: Follow up to Chamber committee meeting Rebecca and Derek, 2 3/pm AUG 18 2015 SLO CITY CLERK Last night our Executive Committee, acting on behalf of our Board, approved the following recommendation by the Economic Development Committee: The San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce supports updating the Downtown's conceptual physical plan in a manner that reflects its original creation by a small group of design professionals, while incorporating an infusion of new core participants and ideas and where a consultant acts as a facilitator, allowing for an organic, neutral process. The Chamber will take an active role in participating in communitywide opportunities to provide input that reflects the values within our Economic Vision document which include the addition of housing options, multi -modal enhancements, tourism amenities and concepts that support economic diversity. We believe that the Downtown area can best be served by a creative vision team that is composed of those professionals that originally participated in the original process with the addition of a limited number of new architectural, planning and design professionals that do not represent any particular organization, constituency or agenda. We strongly believe in the creation of a framework to the process that prevents it from being politicized, overly guided or influenced by any individual(s) or groups, allowing for maximum engagement and creativity which will provide a renewed vision for the Downtown that is compatible with the needs of the city over the next several years. In addition, we look forward to offering the Chamber's input when the time comes for opportunities to participate in the public process. We will be sharing this newly formed policy during our comments at tonight's City Council meeting. Please let me know if you have any questions and thank you both, and Kim, again for bringing this topic forward to the Chamber so we are able to have a better understanding of it. It's an issue that is of high importance to thousands of Chamber members.
