AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO
CREATING THE OFFICE OF BUILDING INSPECTOR;
REGULATING THE ERECTION, CONSTRUCTION, EN-
LARGEMENT, ALTERATION,.REPAIR, MOVING, RE-
MOVAL, DEMOLITION, CONVERSION, OCCUPANCY,
EQUIPMENT, USE, HEIGHT, AREA AND MA.INTE14ANCE
OF BUILDING OR STRUCTURES IN THE CITY OF SAN
LUIS OBISPO: PROVIDING FOR THE ISSUANCE OF
BUILDING PEWITS AND COLLECTION OF FEES THERE- -
FOR: PROVIDING PENALTIES FOR THE VIOLATION
THEREOF; AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 186
(NEW SERIES) OF THE CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of San Luis
Obispo, as follows:
SECTION 1. The office of Building Inspector of the City of
San Luis Obispo, is hereby created and the.Building Inspector is here-
by authorized and directed to enforce all of the provisions of this
ordinance and of the building code hereinafter referred to and for
such purpose, he shall have the powers of a police officer.
SECTION2. That a certain document, as amended, three (3)
copies of which are on file in the office of the City Clerk of the
City of San Luis Obispo, being marked and designated as "Uniform Build-
ing Code, 1940 Edition, 1941 Printing" including the appendix appear-
ing therein, and which said copies, and all pages thereof upon which
any amendment has been made, may be identified by the Seal of the City
of San Luis Obispo appearing thereon, be, and the same is hereby
adopted as the building code of the City of San Luis Obispo for regu-
lating the erection, construction, enlargement, alteration, repair,
moving, removal, demolition, conversion, occupancy, equipment, use,
height, area and maintenance of all buildings and /or structures in
the City of San Luis Obispo; providing for issuance of building per-
mits and collection of fees therefor; and each and all of the regula-
tions, provisions, penalties, conditions and terms of such "Uniform
Building Code, 1940 Edition, 1941 Printing" as amended, on -file in

the office of the City Clerk, including the appendix appearing therein,
are hereby referred to, adopted and made a part hereof as if fully set
out in this ordinance.
SECTION 3. The Building Inspector shall be appointed by the
City Council and shall hold office at the pleasure of the City Council,
The Building Inspector shall receive such salary as may be determined
by resolution of the City Council.
SECTION 4. The City Council may at any time, consolidate
and place in charge of any other official of the City, the functions
and duties of the Building Inspector.
SECTION 5. Before entering upon his duties, the Building
Inspector shall furnish a bond with a surety company as sole surety,
payable to the City of San Luis Obispo, in the sum of One Thousand
Dollars ($1,000.00) conditioned that said Building Inspector will well,
truly, honestly and faithfully perform the duties of his office; pro-
vided, however, that where the office of the Building Inspector is con-
solidated and placed in charge of another official of the city who has
given a bond as such official, no separate bond shall be required of
the Building Inspector.
SECTION 6. Ordinance No. 186 (New Series) of the City of
San Luis Obispo, and all ordinances or,parts of ordinances in conflict
with this ordinance are hereby repealed.
SECTION 7. The City Clerk shall cause this ordinance to be
published for two days before its final passage in the Telegram- Tribune,
a daily newspaper printed, published and circulated in the City of San
Luis Obispo.
