HomeMy WebLinkAbout0331ORDINANCE NO, 31965 Series) AN ORDINANCE ENACTING TEMPORARY RESTRICTIONS ON INSTALLATION OF SIGNS W H E R E A S , under existing City ordinances, it is legal to erect signs 70 feet in height and of unlimited size, shape and light intensity without securing prior approval of the City; and WHEREAS, the lack of any reasonable restrictions constitutes a threat to the public peace, health, safety and welfare; and WHEREAS, the Council deems it necessary to enact emergency restrictions Pending study and adoption of adequate sign standards; NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT OR D A I N E D by the Council of the City of San Luis Obispo as follows: SECTION 1. That the following restrictions shall temporarily supercede all con- flicting provisions in the San Luis Obispo Municipal Code: A. No free standing or attached sign exceeding 100 square feet in area shall be permitted unless prior approval is obtained from the Council. B. No roof signs shall be permitted in any R or C -1 District. C- No billboards shall be permitted in C-1 or C-2 Districts. D. No billboards shall be permitted in C -3 or M Districts unless prior approval is obtained from the Council. SECTION 2. That the above restrictions shall be in effect for one year unless sooner terminated by amendments to the existing Sign Ordinance. SECTION 3. This Ordinance, together with the ayes and noes, shall be published once, at least three days before its final passage, in the Telegram- Tribune, a newspaper Published and circulated in said City, and the same shall go into effect upon its final passage. We recommend that an emergency ordinance be adopted by the Council to include the following restrictions on signs in addition to those presently in the Municipal Code. 1. No free standing or attached sign to exceed 100 sq. ft, in area unless approved by the City Council. 2. No roof signs to be permitted in any R or C -1 district. o� 3.
