HomeMy WebLinkAbout0399Nr,) 5 ORDINANCE NO. 399 (New Series) AN ORDINANCE AMENDING SECTION 1 OF ORDINANCE NO. 263 (New Series), ENTITLED: "AN ORDINANCE PROVIDING FOR THE APPOINMENT OF AND PRESCRIBING TERMS OF MEMBERS, ORGANIZATION, POWERS AND DUTIES OF THE PARK, PLAYGROUND AND RECREATION COLSIISSION; AND REPEALING ORDINANCE NO. 215 (New Series)" BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of San Luis Obispo as follows: SECTION'l. Section 1 of Ordinance No. 263 (New Series), the title of which is set forth in the title of this ordinance, is amended to read as follows: Section 1 (a) The Park, Playground and Recreation Commis- sion provided for in Section 120 of the Charter of the City of San Luis Obispo shall be hereinafter designated as the "Commission" and the City of San Luis Obispo shall be hereinafter designated as the "City ". (b) The Commission shall control and manage the park, playground and recreation activities, properties and facilities of the City. (c) The Commission shall be increased from the present membership of five members to seven members, of which.not more than five shall be of the same sex. The Commission shall be appointed, at such times and for terms as are hereinafter provided, by the blayor, by and with the approval of the City Council, by majority vote. (d) The terms of the five present members of the Commission shall expire on June 30th of the fifth year following their appointment or reappointment to the Commission. The term of the sixth additional`member to be added to the Commission under the provision of this amendment shall expire on June 30, 1956, and the term of the seventh additional member shall expire on June 30, 1958. Thereafter, each member appointed shall hold office for term of -1- five (5) years from and including the July 1st next succeeding ex- piration of his predecessor's term and including and expiring on June 30th of the fifth year after the beginning of his term; the method of appointment to be provided in paragraph (c) of Section 1. (e) Absence from four (4) consecutive regular meetings without the formal consent of the Commission shall be deemed to constitute a retirement of such member. Should a vacancy occur from any cause, a successor shall be appointed as provided in para- graph (c) of Section 1. (f) The Commissioners shall all serve without compensation. All members of the Commission shall be residents of the City of San Luis Obispo. SECTION 2. This ordinance, together with the Ayes and Noes, shall be published for two (2) days before its final passage in the Telegram- Tribune, a daily newspaper printed, published and circulated in said City, and the same shall take effect and be in force thirty days after its final passage.
