ORDINANCE NO. 405 (1968 Series)
AN ORDINANCE AMENDING PORTIONS OF
THE ZONING ORDINANCE
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of San Luis Obispo as follows:
SECTION 1, That Section 9200.1 of the San Luis Obispo Municipal Code, entitled

"Definitions" shall be and is hereby amended to include a definition of small animal
clinics, said Section to read as follows:
Section 9200.1
Definitions
For the purpose of this Chapter, certain terms used herein are defined as ►
follows:
Building: Any structure having a roof.
Drive -In- Restaurant: Any premises with off - street parking and upon which
premises are ocated restaurants, eating or food establishments from which
prepared food or drink, capable of being consumed in automobiles on the
premises, is sold or served and at least some of such food is so consumed.
Family: An individual or two (2) or more persons related by blood, marriage
or adoption, plus not more than two (2) persons, excluding fulltime servants,
who are not related by blood, marriage or adoption, living together as a
single housekeeping unit in a dwelling unit.
Height of Building: The vertical distance from the average level of the
highest and lowest point of that portion of the lot covered by the building
to the topmost point on the roof.
Home Occupation: Gainful employment engaged in by the occupants of a dwelling
su sect to t e requirements of Section 9200.16.2, entitled "Home Occupations."
Hotel /Motel: A building or group of buildings, with or without kitchens,
use primarily for the accommodation of the traveling public.
Junk Yard: The use or more than one hundred (100) square feet of the area
of any for the storage of junk, including scrap metals, salvage or other
scrap materials, or for dismantling or wrecking of automobiles or other
vehicles, or machinery, whether for sale or storage.
Lot: A legally subdivided and recorded area of land having frontage on a City
street, except as otherwise provided in this Chapter.
Parking Space: An accessible and usable space for the parking of automobiles
off'—tEe street which complies with the requirements of Section 920016.1,
entitled "Parking Regulations ".
Small Animal Clinic: A place where animals or pets are given medical or
surgical treatment and are cared for during the time of such treatment. Small
animal veterinarian clinics shall be designed and constructed so that sound
emitted through exterior walls and roofs enclosing areas where animals are
treated or kenneled during treatment shall not exceed 65 decibels. Incineration
shall be prohibited unless there is installed an odor free, smoke free, dust
free incinerator. Such incinerator shall be subject to the approval of the
Planning and Building Dept.
Street: A public thoroughfare which afford "s access to abutting property.
Yard: Required open area unoccupied by any structure except as permitted by
this Chapter,
Yard Street: That area extending along a property line adjoining any street(s)
or Building Setback Line adopted under Section 9300. Formerly "Yard Front ".
(Also includes side yard on a corner lot.)
Yard Other: That area extending along any property line which does not adjoin
a street. Formerly "Yard Rear" and "Yard Side ".

SECTION 2. That Section 9200.32 (Residential Office District) and
Section 9200,34 (Noighborhood Commercial District) shall be and is hereby amended
to permit small animal veterinarian clinics within a completely enclosed building
and with no boarding except as incidental to medical care subject to use permit
approval, as setforth on the Zoning District Charts attached hereto and incorporated
by reference.
SECTION 3, This Ordinance, together with the ayes and noes, shall be published
once in full, at least three days before its final passage, in the Telegram- Tribune,
a newspaper published and circulated in said City, and the same shall go into effect
at the expiration of thirty days after its said final passage.
INTRODUCED AND PASSED TO PRINT by the City Council of the City of San Luis
Obispo at a Regular Meeting of said City Council held on the 5th day of February,
1968, on motion of Councilman Blake, seconded by Councilman Gallagher, and on the
following roll call vote:
AYES: Councilmen Blake, Gallagher, Miller and Mayor Whelchel.
NOES: Councilman Spring.
ABSENT: None.
