HomeMy WebLinkAbout0410ORDINANCE NO. 410 (1968 Series) AN ORDINANCE AMENDING THE SIGN ORDINANCE BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of San Luis Obispo as follows: SECTION 1. The Sign Ordinance of the City of San Luis Obispo, shall be and is hereby amended to include Section 8600.16 entitled "Signs Permitted in The Mission Plaza," said section to read as follows: SECTION 8600.16 SIGNS PERMITTED IN MISSION PLAZA A. For the purpose of this Ordinance the Mission Plaza shall be defined as the area bounded by Chorro Street, Higuera Street, Broad Street and Monterey Street.. B. The following provisions shall apply to all signs erected within the Mission Plaza except that signs attached to the fronts of buildings having frontage onto Higuera Street, Chorro Street, and Broad Street and facing toward said streets, shall be subject to the sign provisions of the district in which they are located. C. The following signs shall be permitted: 1. Signs indicating the name and nature of the occupancy, or the name and address of the building, or the name and address of the owner, (herein after called occupancy signs). These signs shall be placed only on an exterior wall or facade of the building or in a window of a building according to the following regulations: a. The total area of all occupancy signs mounted on or parallel with any exterior wall or facade of any occupancy or in a window of any occupancy shall not exceed 10% of the total area of said exterior or facade. b. Occupancy signs shall be permitted only on an exterior wall or facade or in a window in which there is located a customer entrance to said occupancy, or which faces a public way. c. Signs shall not be blinking, flashing, rotating or animated. Lights used to illuminate a sign shall be installed to concentrate the illumination on the sign and to minimize glare on adjacent property. -0-//D Ordinance No. 410 (196£ ;ries) d, Signs which project from a wall or facade shall not project more than three feet nor exceed six square feet in area. The height of said signs shall not be less than eight feet nor more than twelve feet from grade. e. All signs shall be subject to the approval of the Design Review Board. The Design Review Board, in approving a proposed sign, shall find that the sign design is in keeping with the character of the Mission Plaza. The procedures setforth in Sec. 8600.7.H shall apply. 2. Free standing directory signs or directional signs subject to the following regulations: a. The area shall not exceed fifteen square feet. b. The height shall not exceed eight feet. c. The design and location shall be approved by the Design Review Board. SECTION 2. This Ordinance, together with the ayes and noes, shall be published once in full, at least three days before its final passage, in the Telegram - Tribune, a newspaper published and circulated in said City, and the same shall go into effect at the expiration of thirty days after its said final passage.
