ORDINANCE NO. 683 (1975 Series)
AN ORDINANCE OF THE CITY OF SAN LUIS OBISPO AMENDING
CHAPTER 3, PART IV OF ARTICLE VIII OF THE SAN LUIS
OBISPO MUNICIPAL CODE RELATING TO ELECTRICAL REGULA-
TIONS.
BE IT ORDAINED by the Council of the City of San Luis Obispo as follows:
SECTION 1. Section 8341 is hereby added to the Municipal Code as
follows:
SECTION 8341. Amendment.
Section 680 -8 of Article 680 of the National Electrical Code as
adopted by Section 8340 of this Code is amended to read as follows:
Section 680 -8 - Overhead Wire Clearances:
Swimming Pools shall not be installed under overhead wires;
nor shall overhead wires be installed over existing swimming
pools. Where impractical to locate wires elsewhere, the
following conditions shall apply:
a. The current - carrying conductors consist of abrasion -
resistant cable having a grounded metallic sheath or
neutral- supported service drop cable manufactured in
accordance with Standard No. WC -5 -1961 or Standard No.
WC -3 -1959 of the National Electric Manufacturers
Association and are insulated for the voltage being
supplied.
b. The conductors shall have a radial clearance of not less
than 20 feet from the top edge of the pool walls and shall
have a vertical clearance of not less than 18 feet above
the highest water level of the pool surface. "Service
drops and other wires having coverings of materials
specially approved for installation above swimming pools
may have vertical clearances above the pool and radial
clearances from the top edge of the pool wall of not less
than 16 feet for public and commercially operated pools
and not less than 12 feet for residential pools."
c. No overhead wiring may be installed less than 16 feet
vertically above the horizontal plane through a diving
board or platform, the area of such plane being within 8
feet radially of the diving board or platfrom and over the
water surface of the pool.
d. No overhead wiring may be installed less than 12 feet
vertically above the horizontal plane through a diving
board or platform, the area of such plane being the area
within 3 feet radially of the diving board or platform and
not over the water surface of the pool.

SECTION 2. This Ordinance, together with the ayes and noes, shall
be published once in full, at least three days before final passage,
in the Telegram-Tribune, a newspaper published and circulated in the
City of San Luis Obispo, and the same shall go into effect-at the
expiration of thirty (30) days after its final passage..

Luis Obispo at a Regular Meeting held on the 20th day of September 11
1976, on the motion of Councilman Gurnee
seconded by
Councilman Norris , and on the following roll call vote:
AYES: Councilmen Graham, Gurnee, Norris, Petterson and Mayor
Schwartz
