AN OPDINANCE TO REGULATE THE KEEPIYG OF DOGS IN THE CITY OF
SAT? LUIS OBISPO, PROVIDE FOR WE REGISTRATION THEREOF AYD PROHIBIT
UNREGISTERED DOGS RUONINO AT LARGE IN SAID CITY,
Be it ordained by the Council of the City of San Luis Obispo,
As follows:
Section 1, No person shall harbor any dog within the
cojporate limits of the City of San Luis Obispo unless the
same be annually registered, as hereinafter provide:, and gear
attached to its collar a metal tag as herein prescribed.
Section 2 The City Collector of the City of San Luis
Obispo shall annually, on the first day of April of each year,
Provide, and during the ensuing year keep in his office a book,
designated " Dog Register ", in which he shall, upon the application
of any person owning or having the custody of any dog in said City,
and the payment to him of the registration fee hereby prescribed
register such dog by entering in said book its name ( if any ) ,
its sex and general description, the name of its owner or custodian,
the number of the tag issued therefor as hereinafter provided, the
date and the amount rec &ived for registration fee.
Section 3, The City Collector shall, also, annually,
on or v foie the first day of April of each year, procure and curing
the ansuing year keep.c6nstantly on hand a sufficient number of
metal tags of convenient size and shape to be attached to I dog's
collar, on one side of which shall appear the words "San Luis

Obispo City Dog Tag" together with a4humber, and on the other the
Gate " April i;_, _____— 0 with the proper year inserted;
and at the time each Log is re,gistere? under the provisions hereof,
he shall deliver to its owner or custodian one of such tags. The

tags for each year shall be cambered consedutively from one upward.
Section 4. Each dog registered under the provisions of
this ordinance shall wear a collar, to which shall be attached
the tag issued at the time of its registration; and every dog so
registered and wearing its proper tag shall be entitled to rMain
or be kept in the City of San Luis Obispo during the year follow—
the date of its tag.
Section 5. On the first day of April of each year all
prior registrations made under the provisions of this ordinance
shall be cancelled and all tags theretofore issued shall become
and be thereafter void and of no effect, and all dogs kept or
permitted to remain in the City of San Luis Obispo must be again
registered.
Section 6. For registering each male dog and each spayed
female dog or bitch the City Collector shall collect and receive
a fee of Three Dollars, and for registering each unaltered female
dog or open bitch, he shall collect and receive a fee of Yv . �L
Dollars; which fee he shall accom-t for and pay. the City Treas-
ury A the same manner as other city money received by him.
Section 7. if the tag issued for any duly registered
dog be lost or accidentally destroyed during the year for which
it is issued, the owner or custodian of such dog, upon making
proof to the satisfaction of the City Collector of its loss or
destruction, shall, without charge, receive for such dog another
tag; whereupon the collector shall enter 4�e number of the tag so
issued on the register and cancel the tag previously issped for
such dog anj report the number of the cancelled tag to the pound—
keeper.

that have not at-'-,ached to their collars proper tags, as hereby
required, found running at large on any public street, road,
alley, park, square, or place or any. vacant or uninclosed? lots
or land within the corporate limits of said City; and all dogs
shall be deemed running at large within the meaning of this
ordinance unless lead or restrained by a chain, strap or cord
attached to their collars and actually held by some person or
made fast to some stationary object.
Section O. Within twenty -four hours after impounding any
dog under the provisions of this ordinance, the poundkeeper
shall post a not ice thereof in front of the City Hall, and alt

shall bear the date on which they are posted, contain a general
description of the animal impounded and state that it is in the
public pound where it can be redeemed by the owner by causing; it
to be registered as hereby required and paying the accrued fees
Prescribed by law, and if not so redeemed within two days, it will
be sold or put to death,.
Section 10. The poundkeeper shall securely keep all dogs
so impounded for two days after posting the notices hereby
required, supplying them with the necessary food and water, and
during such time the owner of any such do may redeem the same
by causing it to be registered, procuring arse attaching to it

Prescribed-
Section ll. If any dog impounded under the provisions of
this -6T .inance be not redeemed within the time herein specified
the poundkeeper may sell the samie, at Public or private sale,
to any person who .gill cause it to be registered, and if not sold, -
he shall cause such dog to be put to death and its carcass proper -ly
buried.
Section 12 The poundkeeper shall keep a record of all
dogs imr�ounded under the provisions of this ordinance and the
disposition made thereof, in the same manner that the report of
other im":;oun.ded animals are kept, ancf he shall, on the first
Wonday' of each month, file ,p,ith the City= Clerk, an itemised, detailed
and verified statement of all fees received and all dogs killed and
buried pursuant to the provisions hereof during the preceeding
caler_der month.

Section 13, No person owning any dog, or having the care,
control or possessi .-n of any dog, shall suffer, allow or permit
such dog, whether registered or not, to run, be, or remain upon
the following streets or portions of streets iiithin the City of
San Luis Obispo, unles8 such dog be lead by leash of suitable
strength, and not more than six feet in length, to Grit: Upon
that part or portion of Higuera Street between Nipomo ands
Streets; upon that part or portion of horro Street between
ant-f. Pal Streets; upon that part or ncrtion of j?_Tonter 3r Street

poundlkeeper shall catch and impound any c'.og fount-' upon said streets—
or portions of streets when not bein;a led as rewired by this secioli.
Section 1, every person -who shall counterf iet or imitate
or attempt to counterfeit or imitate any tag required by the
provisions of this ordinance; and ev3ry parson who shall attach
to the collar of any dog or otherwise use or atten.pt to use in
the City of San Luis Obispo any counterfeit or imitation of such

tag; anf every person who shall, in any manner, interfere
or attempt to interfere with the poundk-eeper in the performance
of any duty imposed by the provisions hereof; and eve.r�, par

Section 16. All ordinances or parts of ordinances in
