As a businessperson who lives, works and volunteers in Downtown SLO, I am extremely familiar with the landscape and lifestyle. Our mix of restaurants, shops, bars and specialty stores allows us to draw tourists as well as members of the community. However, there are very few entertainment options that are family friendly outside of movies and Farmer's Market. I have a daughter entering her second year at Cal Poly and my son will be starting 6"' grade. As a parent, I can confidently say that a bowling alley downtown would be a major success, as we currently travel to Mustang Lanes or Pismo to bowl. Bowling is a popular family pastime, birthday venue and good clean fun for teenagers and college students. What a great addition it would be to have a place for our youth to hang out on a Friday or Saturday night that is not a bar or a house party! Additionally, Discover SLO could be a great venue for corporate events and fundraisers. As you know, our community is incredibly philanthropic and I can personally attest to the difficulties of trying to find new, exciting venues for fundraising and/or corporate events. I hope my feedback, which I believe is in line with many SLO residents, will help the members better understand just how much Discover SLO would add to our downtown.
