I hope I'm not considered an advocate for anti -social behavior by expressing full support for the project
at the old Sports Authority site at 1144 Chorro St. which I understand will feature a bowling alley and,
hopefully, billiard and pool tables. Bowling (and billiards) traditionally has provided a community
gathering place for of all ages and economic backgrounds. It is a particularly nice late afternoon and
evening past -time and provides a good alternative to Internet browsing, TV watching and expensive
dining. Personally, I would take advantage of such a facility regularly, especially if bowling leagues were
available.
Given the high rent undoubtedly involved, it is hard to imagine a new bowling alley (or new anything
else) succeeding without associated entertainment and dining facilities. In this regard I think the
determination of your Planning Commission to provide a conditional use permit was correct and should
be upheld.
Thank you for taking this opinion into consideration. I know your job is not an easy one.
