Clry CI_;- R 1: COUNCIL MEETING: ITEM NO.: [ 1 G As a longtime resident of San Luis Obispo, I would like to register my support and enthusiasm for the Discovery SLO project currently proposed for 1144 Chorro Street in downtown SLO. This is such an imaginative project. What it gets right is understanding that SLO's downtown is a vibrant 18 hour a day location, and it's mix of uses not only will make for a better business plan, but will fit real needs here in the community. While opponents have focused on the alcohol related issues of the project, it seems that the developers have put so much more emphasis on food and entertainment activities. This isn't just another bar downtown. It has a reasonably priced menu and a host of entertainment options that will attract families, students and young professionals in ways, and at times of the day, that many other alcohol related businesses simply don't. When I look at this project, I see something with the popularity and vibrancy of Firestone Grill, which has long been a hub of activity for an exceptionally wide segment of the population here, and, I think, contributes little to alcohol related problems in the downtown area. That the owners of Discovery SLO are committed to late night dining says a lot about their approach to the business and a lot about how this facility will benefit residents of the city. This is a good project in a great location. Please uphold the Planning Commission's recommendation and approve Discovery SLO. Barry Goyette San Luis Obispo CA 93405
