Subject: Support of Discovery SLO
Dear City Council:
I have lived close to downtown for over 20 years, and I value what downtown SLO has to offer. I write in support of the
downtown project. A bowling alley is a great multi age activity and that is what our downtown needs. This is a place
where families can gather, and a place where teenagers can go in their own groups. I think it is a great use for that
downtown site.
I am puzzled by the comments from the "save our downtown" group, because they seem completely tone deaf and
illogical. Having many thriving businesses downtown is what "saves" downtown. Jim Lopes' quoted comments in the
newspaper about "homies" is pretty offensive. We do have plenty of bars, and they are busy! And there is nothing
wrong with bars. Besides, we are not talking about a strip club. This is a bowling alley. As far as the later hours, that
should not be a concern, either. If we want the project to have the chance to thrive we should allow it go forward as the
developers envision to allow them the greater chance of success.
Please let the project go forward. Being open late at night is great! People need places to go when late movies get out,
and there is nothing wrong with people who like to be out eating and drinking late at night. I resent a few people trying
to demonize this development effort. Downtown density is good for the town.
