The appellants are spot-on — this is a disaster for downtown. How can the city in all seriousness say a megabar with more than 1,100 potential drunks in it at a time, followed by their dispersing through town, be a good thing for San Luis Obispo? When we already have violent crime here greater than that in 90% of US cities, largely fueled by alcohol, how can permitting this mega-drunkatorium be a good thing? As for collateral damage, I live in a neighborhood one mile north of the proposed megabar, and after the bars close, if I go out front to observe, I can see a swaying line of the prime of Drunk Luis Obispo's youth staggering along, unable to walk in a straight line. (Well, at least they're swaying on foot, not driving bumper cars down the street.) I have found drunks passed out in driveways, and called the police to get them help. Of course we also have to deal with the piss, barf and poop these intellectuals leave behind — a mile away from Chorro/Higuera! And with all too much frequency, our cars are vandalized by the good -timers. I've replaced two side mirrors just this summer. Each time that happens it's a tax of several hundred dollars a resident has to pay to subsidize the greed of those who pander to the profitability of youthful alcoholism to collect lucre our Pope calls "the dung of the devil." We don't get the police patrols that would help us since by city directive most of them are downtown trying to maintain order there, rather than out in the neighborhoods. It's time the Council looked out for the good of the residents of this city. Please deny this thing. It's also time you take seriously the damage fashionable youth alcohol addiction does to young not - fully -formed brains, and took seriously your moral duty as civic "parents" to counter this public health problem rather than contribute to its expansion.-- REGEI4fED I Richard SEP 15 2015 i SLO crC CL;_;, I k COUNCIL MEETING:?/,` ,TEM NO.: i
