Andrew Carter Council Member City of San Luis Obispo From: Odile Ayral [oayral @calpoly.eduj Sent: Friday, February 01, 2013 2:03 PM To: Marx, Jan; Carpenter, Dan; Carter, Andrew; Smith, Kathy; Ashbaugh, John Subject: Choice of new Council Member Dear Mayor and Council Members, FEB 0 Y 2013 SLQ CITY CLERK AGENDA CORRESPONDENCE Dated --)d I am sad to hear of Andrew Carter's leaving the City Council, but I certainly can understand why he is doing it, and I wish him good luck in his new career. I am also very concerned about the lack of truly competent candidates to replace Andrew. By competent, I mean someone who has knowledge of City government, experience in related fields, and who has demonstrated serious interest in the City by attending City Council meetings. Among all the candidates, only Kevin Rice has regularly attended these meetings. Paul Brown and Andrea Miller have links to alcohol outlets, which are destroying our downtown, and Jeff Arranguena and Amy Kardel have no experience whatsoever. The amazing part about Jeff Arranguena is that he ran for City Council, but has not attended any of the Council meetings ever since. In view of his lack of knowledge on these ters, it is worrisome that he is not more curious. Therefore, I urge you to name Kevin Rice, because he is the only one with knowledge of City Government and interest in the City.
