I am reaching out to you to share with you a topic on tonight's SLO City Council meeting that may be of
interest to you. Tonight is the Fire Department's check -in with Council and the community regarding fire,
rescue, and medical coverage to the developing southern area of the City and southern expansion
areas. We recently met with the Planning Commission for this same purpose. This effort will result in a
refresh to the "standards of cover" component of the 2009 Fire Master Plan. In brief, "standards of cover'
is a Fire Service term given to a process of community risk assessment and mitigation.
Below is a link to the staff report on this topic:

The purpose of tonight's study session is to share some preliminary information developed by our
consultant group (Citygate LLC) and then to listen to the Council and community so our subsequent
research is better informed by local perspectives. We've offered four policy - related questions for Council
to help guide the dialogue. These questions are included in the above linked report.
We welcome your participation at tonight's Council meeting. If you are unable to make it, we welcome
your correspondence as we work with our contractor to develop a plan reflective of the meets the safety
needs and wants of our community. Thank you.
Respectfully yours,
Garret Olson
Fire Chief
