Dear Rich:.
Your idea of using French Park as an additional venue is great and also greatly appreciated. What about nets, paddles
and balls, etc. We
have accumulated tons of stuff, sign in sheets, ball holders, paddle holders, etc. It hardly fits in the wagon you have given
us now.
What would we use for equipment at French park and where would it be stored each time we played. If we had
permanent courts the
people would bring their paddles and balls and the nets would be permanent. No need for storage areas, etc. That is
what we are
striving for in the future.
Suggestion: Line permanent tape at French Park. Use it for tennis and pickleball simultaneously. We can get four
courts from one
tennis court. We could use that venue on Tuesday and Thursday, but that would mean a double set of all equipment and
a storage area
to keep it in.
That would help very much but only if you are willing to put permanent tape on the court. We cannot possibly take the
time to line the
court each time we play and then remove the tape. Also, the tape is very expensive. People all over the country indoors
and outdoors are
using the courts for tennis as well as Pickleball with both sets of lines simultaneously. We would be willing to do the
same.
The tennis court at French are rarely used. We know people that live there and they say they hardly ever see anyone on
the
court. We now have well over 120 people on our roster and have 25 or more people there each time we play, which
means half of us
are sitting out. From what I can gather there is only one person that uses the basket ball court during the week and that is
around 11:30 a.m.
If he starts at 11:30 we can move our time down to 8:30 a.m. on Tuesday and Thursday.
I know this is getting to be a real annoyance for you, but we are dealing with over a 100 people and they would like to be
accommodated. Unfortunately, this pain in your is not going to go away. We get more and more players each
week. We had a man from Colorado
this morning. He sees our venue in the pickleball USAPA website and when he gets to San Luis Obispo he wants to
play. This happens all
over the country.
We have over 90% of our people that play living in San Luis Obispo. We have multiple places for children and multiple
kinds of fields and equipment for them, there is NOTHING for seniors. These are the people that vote and have the
money for campaigns
they have to be taken seriously. A city of this size with a senior center the size of a small house is a shame on San Luis
Obispo.
I am sorry to go rambling on, but the older I get the more I see the need to keep seniors healthy. In the long run it is the
cheapest thing to do
for the entire community.
Please help with our endeavor to do this.
