Subject: Mission Plaza Tree Removal
Hello, I am writing this letter in regard to the Christmas tree that was recently placed in the San Luis Obispo
Mission Plaza.
As soon as I was informed about the tree being put in, my thoughts first shifted to my graduation.
I will be graduating in June 2016, and my school's graduation ceremony takes place in the Mission plaza. It
occurred to me that even though my school is smaller, my class is large and the total amount of family members
and friends coming to support the 2016 graduates always packs the plaza tight. This meaning that a decent
portion of the families /friends will be sitting off to the side. The Christmas tree placed here unfortunately blocks
the view of many who are trying to celebrate their graduates' huge accomplishment /one -time experience.
Personally, I believe that the tree being placed here is not the best decision.
I would be very disappointed if I had to face the situation of working hard for four years and then my family
members not being able to see me receive my diploma.
After being shown the pictures of the placement of the tree, I decided to check it out for myself to see what's
going on. I stood off to the side and sure enough, it is impossible to see the place where students will be
receiving their diplomas due to the tree.
I also noticed how out of place the tree looks in the plaza. I understand that maybe the idea was to bring that
Christmas joy and happiness to San Luis Obispo's citizens, but the placement of the tree looks as if it was just
stuck there with no thought or organization of how it would look existing in its place.
The tree makes the mission look unbalanced because of being on only one side of the mission rather than in
both planters on each side. I personally believe the tree looks very random and wasn't placed with thought. The
tree has nothing existing to compliment it, therefore making it look out of place.
I understand the idea may have sounded great, but the actual decision doesn't seem to work out. Physically, it
looks unattractive /unorganized, as well as being an inconvenience to viewers and participants of events taking
place in the plaza.
Thank you for reading this letter
