TO: Mr. Greg Wynn, Chairman, ARC; Committee members Particia Andreen; Ken
Curtis; Suzan Ehdaie; Amy Nemcik; Allen Root; Angela Soil
SUBJECT: ARC Meeting, Monday, January 11
I am writing to request that the meeting scheduled for January 11 be either cancelled or
postponed. It provides insufficient time for the many residents of SLO interested in this
issue to prepare. The permit has already been declined by the Planning
Commission. Normal protocol dictates that the Planning Commission result be
forwarded to the City Council. To do otherwise, in the words of Ken Schwartz, former
mayor, is "completely out of order", is "dead wrong", and "a classic case of
administrative personnel overreaching their prescribed powers". If, after reviewing the
PC denial, the Council decides that additional input is needed from the ARC the Council
can invoke a continuance.
The rationale given by Mr. Codon of the planning staff for calling such a meeting was
the "convenience" of having it before the City Council meeting on January 19. It is not
convenient for the residents whom the staff and Commission are supposed to be
serving. No official public notice has yet been received by neighboring residents.
In the event that you feel you cannot cancel or postpone the Jan 11 meeting, would you
please consider allowing our speakers more than three minutes each to present their
views. This issue is one of great concern to a large population of SLO, apparently of
greater concern than is recognized by the planning staff.
Thank you for your consideration.
Respectively,
Dr. Wm. Cochran
