To the Advisory Body:
The Rental Inspection Program was supported by residents because its main purpose was to correct problems & unsafe
conditions in housing rented out to students or other renters at risk. In the case of 1269 Fredericks St, these are
homeowners living in their own residence and not imposing a safety or fire hazard to any renters. What has been
constructed at this home happened many years ago before our recent ordinances came into play. Their home & its
construction should be grandfathered in according to long standing City ordinances. Common sense should prevail and
this issue should never have gotten this far if it weren't for some over - zealous City planners. To have the Walker's be
threatened with condemnation is absurd. This family has complied with all ordinances for the duration of the time they
have lived in this house. They should NOT be penalized for any construction that happened before they moved to this
site.
It is our neighborhood's hope, and that of many of the Walker's friends, that this issue be resolved with decency and
respect for the family now living in this older home. The care they have given to this residence is obvious to anyone who
has taken the time to view it.
With respect for your ultimate decision, Karen Adler, Chairperson AVNA
