P and R commission re: park 71 Palomar, SLO
616 Mission Lane
San Luis Obispo, Ca. 93405
Dear Ms. Stanwyck and Park and Recreation Commissioners,
FEB 01 2010
I am writing this to request that you purchase 71 Palomar, SLO 93405 for a city park for the
neighborhoods of Anholm and North Foothill. As you know, we do not have a park in this area from
Foothill to Downtown SLO except for the small Anholm pocket park on the 800 block of Mission Street
and it is a toddler, young child park.
You now have an opportunity to provide the residents of this area a park on the former site of the
Delta Tau fraternity. The property is about 1 1/2 acres and there are mature trees and a lovely, old
historic farmhouse on the site. There is a proposal from a developer in El Segundo (LR
Development) to fill this wonderful site with 41 apartments, but the property is still owned by the
fraternity and I've been told that the price is just over $1,000,000. That makes it a bargain compared
to the $2,200,000 the city recently paid to install a skateboard facility at Santa Rosa Park.
I have lived in this neighborhood in SLO for 50 years and bought my place on Mission Lane in
1974. For MANY years we have been promised a neighborhood park and one by one the large
parcels on Foothill were developed until we now have this one last opportunity for our city leaders to
provide the promised park.
Please take a drive by the lovely spot and provide us with our long- awaited city park. This historic
house and gorgeous property could be a wonderful asset for the entire city and a legacy for our
current representatives to preserve a unique part of San Luis Obispo for future generations. I would
appreciate hearing from you. Thank you.
Sincerely,
Cheryl McLean
