Subject: Sanford House neighborhood park
Dear Gentlepersons,

We are writing to bring to your attention a singular opportunity to obtain a historic property and provide a
neighborhood park. The 1890's neo-colonial Sanford house ( #170 on historic properties list) located at 71 Palomar is on
a large parcel sufficient for a well needed park while preserving the house. The structure is in need of attention to
restore it to it's former glory, after which it could used for such events as conferences, receptions, music or art events
as a source of income.
An out of town developer is proposing relocation of the Sanford House in order to maximize development of the
parcel, however there is no need to move the house. Although the developer has indicated ownership of the property,
the assessors' record indicate that the Delta Tau fraternity retains ownership. We were previously advised that the
fraternity had offered to give the property to Cal Poly. The resources from architecture, engineering, landscape and
construction management programs at Cal Poly, with building trades at Cuesta could make for a truely community
endeavor.
We have lived across from the Sanford house since 1988 and for the entire time this has been a walking, running,
biking route used by families, students and seniors. A park would provide a welcomed transition between the Valencia
student apartments and the residential neighborhood available for the use of all.
