Subject: SLO BREW Aerovista Drive
My family lives on La Posada Street about 1/8 of a mile away from the new home of SLO Brew/The Rock. My husband
and I had absolutely no concern with the brew facility or tasting room and in fact would patron the restaurant/tasting
room. Our concern came after reading in the Biz Buzz, The Rock/ SLO Brew is on track for a six hundred seat live music
venue, with concerts Friday, Saturday and Sunday, day into evening up to 11pm. After reading the article, numerous red
flags triggered but for briefness I will stick to noise, traffic and parking.
As far as noise this is truly in our backyard. We moved out to the Tank Farm area over 13 years ago to avoid the noise
of living downtown or near Cal Poly. This was a choice for us. I am not complaining about downtown or areas near Poly,
we as a family just did not want to live that close to an area of evening vibrancy. I know a noise survey was done for the
brewery site, but we hear Mind Body and Tap It when they do events. There events are occasional and both facilities
are further away then The Rock from our neighborhood. This is not a complaint but we can also hear Airport Day from
our neighborhood also further away. Therefore, how we won't hear a concert that is closer than all these venues is
beyond us. We do not want to close our windows every weekend or not be able to enjoy our backyards due to
concert/traffic noise. This brings me to traffic.
Traffic is scary .... we already have cars cutting through our neighborhood to skip the light at Tank Farm and Broad. In fact
today SLOPD is ticketing cars blowing through the stop at Ambrosia and Fuller. From our house exiting Fuller on Broad
toward the airport or exiting Aerovista toward downtown is at best dangerous. It is almost like the the Wild West
....cars cuttings into lanes that aren't turning, cars crossing double yellow, parents trying to get to gymnastic center,
travelers late to a flight, Mind Body employees racing in and out, etc. This is not coupled yet with an extra 600 people.
Then add those 600 people trying to get to a concert with a few that have over indulged either before or after and we
have a bigger concern. 600 people or 444 cars (as I understand that is the parking spaces) are not going to quietly and
politely drive in and out. Driving from Aerovista to downtown will be an accident waiting to happen. Added to the
danger of impatient folks that decide to use Fuller to Poinsettia as faster way out. These folks have the potential to be
driving possible speeding into a residential neighborhood with young drivers and kids playing in the street. Not only will
extra traffic be a problem, parking will be an issue. On any given day we have folks parked on Fuller that do not live in
our neighborhood. Add a concert and I can guarantee we will have people parking here and French Park with the
addition of extra cars driving in and out. So what happens then ... do we turn into one of those permit neighborhoods or
do we wait for an accident to happen and decide this is a bad idea.
Please reconsider the concert portion of this venue. The negative impact to the local families far out weighs the benefit
of having another music venue in our community.
Sincerely,
Rob and Joyce Miklik
