I am writing to let you of my serious concerns about the proposal to make Luneta Drive a through street. For our family, like many of the residents on Luneta Dr., having a quiet non -through street was a big factor in selecting a location to raise a family. Currently, there are a number of families with young children starting to move into the neighborhood. This is a very positive sign as it is slowly transforming to a family neighborhood once again. To increase the amount and speed of through traffic would greatly change the character and safety of the neighborhood. The street also has more curves and hills than Ramona, which already makes it somewhat of a concern for pedestrians, children, and pets because it is sometimes difficult to see an approaching car even with the speed and number there presently are. There have been many occasions when I or one of the members of my family have been unpleasantly startled by an approaching car that suddenly appeared around one of the curves or hills. I can only imagine how this will be even more of a risk if Luneta were to become a through street and the traffic volume and speed were to significantly increase. I previously lived on Ramona Dr. immediately before purchasing a home on Luneta, and even at that time there was a significantly higher volume and speed of traffic. While I understand the need to relieve some of the traffic pressure on Ramona, redirecting it into another area of the neighborhood that can handle it even less well is not the solution. There are currently better ways to direct traffic through the neighborhoods onto Foothill than by using Luneta. To redirect traffic, from whatever source, into a residential neighborhood goes against the city's circulation plan as well as common sense. The city's own plan calls for discouraging through traffic on residential streets, which Luneta is classified. Furthermore, while relieving some of the traffic pressure on Ramona is laudable, it is highly unlikely that the overall amount of traffic through the neighborhood is likely to be reduced. More likely, the total volume of traffic will be increased as more cars will find both Ramona and Luneta to be convenient shortcuts to avoid Foothill. As a resident, I strongly oppose making Luneta a through street. Please do what is right for the residents of this neighborhood. I sincerely urge you and the other members of the city to explore more effective alternatives to redirect traffic than making Luneta a through street. Thank you. Alison Preston 254 Luneta Dr,
