Subject: Letter to SLO city council
Dear SLO City Council,
I recently attended a couple of meetings and was disturbed by a few things.
The first one being your lack of respect and attention towards the citizens speaking at the podium. It appears that you are
checked out and don't hear a word being spoken! These people are eloquent, have done their homework and are
speaking on behalf of many of us who share the same views. You could at least give them the courtesy of appearing to
pay attention to them.
The second disturbing thing I witnessed is- that despite the views and opinions being spoken by citizens at the podium,
your approval of certain projects in town- you definitely are NOT listening to the wishes of the majority of our residents!
Height of proposed project on Santa Rosa St (between Higuera and Marsh)
You may justify it any way you wish, but the majority of SLO citizens DO NOT want this monstrosity in the heart of our
downtown! It is not what we need to attract visitors or provide housing or office space. I can only assume that you have
your own agenda that does not coincide with the wishes of our residents.
I heard many people voice concern for the quantity of building going on in SLO, particularly with regards to water.
We continue into the worst drought on record (this is undeniable- regardless of what was reported at the last meeting) and
you continue to approve massive building projects in the area that are NOT SUSTAINABLE. Our citizens want a building
moratorium and yet major building continues.
Rental inspection program
This is an enormous waste of time, effort and money. It punishes the "good" landlords and is a violation of privacy. These
resources could be put to much better use by educating the renters of their rights and have them report properties that
actually are an issue. Create a task force to inspect the reported properties and leave the good landlords alone. Again . .
not what the majority wants in San Luis Obispo!
SLO Brew event center
This center is extremely close to residential neighborhoods. I love live music, however, alcohol, crowds, traffic and loud
music are NOT what the majority of our city wants within a mile of homes and highway 227- which is already a major
source of traffic, noise and congestion. You arrogantly approved this project as if the citizens of our neighborhood and city
have no say in the matter.
May I remind you that we voted you into office to REPRESENT our wishes NOT to further your own agendas.
I ask that you reconsider these projects and at the very least out them on a ballot.
Thank you,
Diane Dieterich
