Subject: Walker Appeal
Dear Mayor and Council Members,
I attended the hearing on the appeal brought by the Walker family to the Construction Board of Appeals on
January 28th, and I bear witness that the present avalanche report you have received from the Staff is biased,
one-sided, and does not correctly reflect what took place on that day. The Board recognized the studio
apartment as legal non -conforming use, and waved most of the requirements for permits on work done before
the Walkers bought the property, as the law prescribes.
The fact that Ms. Schneider refuses to accept the Board's decision is very disturbing. She is determined to make
the Walkers responsible for everything that took place since the Deluge, and one cannot help wondering what is
driving her. The Walkers have already been through hell because city regulations do not sufficiently protect
residents from this type of abuse. The Council really needs to work on this issue so that nobody else goes
through what the Walkers have been made to endure, especially now that you are starting a rental inspection
program. I supported this program, but what is happening to the Walkers has convinced me I was wrong, and I
will no longer support it.
I am going to speak longer on Tuesday night, but I wanted to ask you to read the Staff report with open eyes and
a questionin.9 mind.
Sincerely,
Odile Ayral
