Mayor Marx and Council Members,
I attended the Construction Board Meeting in the hope that common sense would prevail and the spirit of the
law rather than the letter of the law would be followed.
I respect and commend each and every volunteer member of the board for their service.
However,
*The construction board meeting was like a Salem Witch trial. I have attended many advisory committee
meetings. There is a formula to the meetings: staff report, question to the staff, appellants report, questions to
the appellant, discussion among members with further clarifying questions and finally decision.
*During the discussion phase, each time that a member asked a question or made a statement that favored the
Walkers, Anne Schneider jumped in and started answering-- giving her version of the facts or deftly steering the
discussion from that particular issue to another without really giving an answer to the question posed.
•When the attorney for the staff and the attorney for the board discussed something, they would not allow the
attorney for the Walkers to speak.
+As the resolutions were being amended, the board would ask for one thing and Anne Schneider would again
jump in to "Help" with wording and would get exactly the same result.
I believe that it is unfair to make the Walkers bring this entire house up to 2016 standards. They should
immediately fix any true health hazards, get permits for work done after their purchase but in no way should
they have to be responsible for construction done before their purchase. The City records are far too spotty or
erroneous to use as absolutes, not only for the Walkers but for any resident of SLO.
