HomeMy WebLinkAbout04-06-2016 HRC Correspondence - Item 2 (GALA Q Youth Group)Human Relations Commission MID -YEAR REPORT Due: January 31n Grants -In -Aid Program Organization: GALA - Gay and Lesbian Alliance of the Central Coast Program: Q Youth Group Administrator's Report: (A brief synopsis of the activities of the reporting period, including a statement of the activities, service or programs provided as described in Exhibit B (your grant application) using the Grants -In -Aid provided, and any changes that have occurred during the reporting period.) The Q Youth Group at GALA is designed to reach out to at risk youth aged 13-20 who identify as LGBTQ+. The group meets weekly at the GALA Center to discuss issues the kids face at school, home, and in their daily life as mem- bers of the LGBTQ+ community. Not only does the group meet to discuss is- sues, but we also hold lessons and seminars on life skills (money manage- ment, resume writing, job interview skills, conflict resolution, etc.). We also hold various social events (Q prom, field trips) to allow the participants to inter- act in a safe and welcoming environment. Statistical Report: (This section should include the number of clients served, their cities of origin, the na- ture of services provided, as well as any other statistics which are kept by the agency. The total number of clients served also should be broken down by the type of service received.) Members of Q Youth come from all over the county but the majority of partici- pants come from the City of San Luis Obispo. Current membership is 27 active members, with 80% of those members attending at least two meetings per month. Financial report: (A financial statement detailing how the City's grant money has been expended.) Over the last six months, $975 has been spent on food and beverages for the weekly meetings. $275 has been spent on advertising (through newsletters and also in ju- nior high and high school newspapers and GSA clubs), $115 has been spent on craft supplies. $685 has been spent on facilitator training and retention. $835 has been spent on the Q Masquerade Ball (venue rental, insurance, decorations, music, food, and drink).
