Subject: Proposed Event Permit- SLO Brew 855 Aerovista
To the San Luis Obispo City Council and To Whom It May Concern,
I am writing to strongly urge the Council to reject the proposed live event permit requested by SLO Brew at 855
Aerovista. My family and I reside at 942 Goldenrod, which is less than half a mile from the proposed event area. SLO
Brew is essentially across Broad Street/ Highway 227 from my home and many, many others. Ours is a quiet, peaceful
residential neighborhood. Staging live events for 600 people in this area of town would be overwhelmingly disruptive to
all of the residents in terms of noise, traffic and public safety.
There are already multiple and ample concert venues in the city and the county. Holding live music concerts, with
alcohol in abundance, for up to 600 people, near Tank Farm and Broad on weekend evenings, would be an accident
waiting to happen. Actually, multiple accidents. Highway 227 is already badly congested each and every weekday
afternoon. The proposed venue could not handle the inherent parking and traffic overflow, even on weekend nights.
Add late night shows for hundreds of people fueled with SLO Brew products. By green lighting such an inherently
problematic situation, the City would be opening itself up to potential litigation in a variety of circumstances.
Apart from the inherent safety and litigation issues, the noise that would necessarily be generated would be extremely
disruptive to the quiet enjoyment of hundreds of residents in the surrounding area. This is not Cal Poly or even
downtown. Most residents in this area chose to live here precisely because it was the quiet end of town. Loud, amplified
concert music cannot be controlled so as not to be an overbearing nuisance.
I have touched on only a few of the logistical, legal and common sense issues raised by the proposed permit. This is a
very bad idea. I hope the City Attorney, Police Department, Transportation Department and Risk Manager agree. Please
deny the permit request.
Thank you for your consideration. If you have any questions or comments, please do not hesitate to contact me.
Respectfully,
Scott Juretic
