Subject: SLO Brew development kli(-RVEF) r

Dear Community Leaders:
My family moved to SLO three years ago. As a primary care physician, we could have settled in almost any
community in the country. We were drawn to SLO for the excellent education, the progressive atmosphere,
and a small town charm. Having two young children, we purchased a home on Larkspur St to enjoy a safe
community and the assets of French Park.
I have concerns for the continued development slated for this area and specifically for a large entertainment
venue. We have already been very frustrated by the noise of the airport that continues at all hours. There
are frequent plane arrivals and take -offs in the middle of the night that wake us and prohibit us from keeping
the windows open. Now the added construction noise penetrates through the windows. I recognize that the
new terminal is an asset to the community, and that this noise is for a short time during construction, but I am
very concerned with increased travel in/out of the airport at night in the future. Commercial airlines are
limited in their times of travel, can private travel also be limited due to noise concerns? The small planes
seem to be louder sometimes than the commercial planes. With airport development, are we inviting more
traffic? Can restrictions be placed?
In regards to the SLO Brew venue. While I do think that a brewery and restaurant are fine, I do have grave
concerns for the volume of traffic and the noise generated. Broad street has already become very busy at all
hours. We have difficulty entering Broad in either direction now from Fuller Rd and frequently have to travel
the neighbourhood to Tank Farm Rd to enter the flow of traffic safely. How will another 600 cars, of people
that have been imbibing, effect this situation? We can easily predict much of the traffic will cut through our
neighbourhood to circumvent the traffic light at Tank Farm and Broad, and that parking will be frequent, as
well as increased utilization of French Park facilities pre and post show. This area is a haven for young
children and people with pets. There are constantly people walking, children playing, young families using
French Park that will be negatively impacted by this influx. Moreover, the late night noise of an outdoor
music venue needs to be considered. We hear the music from Tap It already but it is small and done early in
the evening. A larger concert, going through the day and night- similar to the Pozo festivals- will be
intolerable.
Please consider that I paid a very high price for a nice home in an excellent area. I am a physician and
business owner providing care to this community. The investment I made to this community and the possible
loss of equity due to the disclosures of noise pollution from the airport and now two music venues, has to be
considered. We are deterred from enjoying the cool night air for fear of a private jet waking us at 3 am along
with the incessant sound of construction. Now we are fearful of our children and pets being hit by drunk
people using our neighbourhood as a through -fare. Would you not also be frustrated? If you were our
neighbour, you would be equally concerned. Please practice empathy as you consider the implications and
develop strategies regarding this development.
I look forward to continued conversation and appreciate your consideration of this matter.
Sincerely,
Kevin Parzych M.D.
