Dear City Council Members,
COUNCIL MEETING: 0-k —k °l —7-0k b
ITEM NO.: 1 "A
APR 2 0 ?016
I'm sure you have gotten lots of emails opposing SLO Brew's plan to have a music venue near the airport on the principle
of it being live music and that live music is loud. However these people probably aren't accounting for a lot of things.
This will be in a location that is not in a residential neighborhood so it isn't going to really effect residents. From what I
have heard the venue is going to be inside the facility which means that the volume will dissipate very quickly as you get
further from the building. If it is a well insulated building you might the music for about 20 feet outside the building, if it
is poorly insulated you might (and I highly emphasize might) hear it in the next building over.
Moving away from the topic of sound, this is a revenue opportunity for SLO. No matter the size of the bands people will
go see them which means that people from the neighboring communities will come to SLO and probably get dinner or
something else and make a night of it. This means increased business for local restaurants and increased revenue for the
city. If the venue draws in larger bands like Santa Barbara Bowl does in SB then it will draw people from even further
away which means SLO will be even more of a destination location and it will bring people in from even further away
than the local communities which means that people will stay in local hotels which means more business and money for
the city.
Beyond all of that, a good music venue that attracts artists of all sizes adds some culture to our city. Music is one of the
largest arts that people go to see. We have an arts theater, and art galleries, but we don't have any really good music
venues that can pull in artistic talent on the same levels as the artistic talent we get at galleries around town or from
movies at the Palm theater.
Approving SLO Brew's permit for a music venue is beneficial to the city as a whole.
Regards,
Kyle Reis
