Date: May 3, 2016 at 10:36:40 PM PDT To: "Steve Sidwell" Ladies & Gentlemen, Attached (and below!), I am pleased to present the proclamation signed by Mayor Steve Martin declaring the week of May 9-15, 2016 as International Pickleball Week in Paso Robles, CA. The presentation took place during the May 3rd City Council meeting, with all Council members present, as well as representatives from the Paso Robles Recreation Department. Barbara Ferguson, President of the Paso Robles Pickleball Club & I accepted on behalf of the Club, with several other Club members in attendance. This is indeed a significant proclamation for Paso Robles Pickleball Club, The City of Paso Robles, The Paso Robles Rec Dept, the USAPA & the pickleball community in general so please join us in accepting this proclamation on their behalf! ar p 1 el Pao 1e Robi PROCLAMATION � INTERNATIONAL PICKLEBALL WEEK May 9-15, 2016 WHEREAS, the sport of Pickleball is rapidly growing in popularity across the country, gaining diverse participants ranging from school- age children to senior citizens; and WHEREAS, Pickleball is played on a badminton -sized court with a lowered net where players volley and perforated plastic ball over the net with paddles that are twice as large as those used in ping pong; and WHEREAS, organized under the USA Pickleball Association (USAPA), the sport of Pickleball can be enjoyed by all skill levels, from those just learning the sport to experienced, competitive players. Regardless of skill level, the game fosters a friendly, social atmosphere and encourages a healthy lifestyle; and WHEREAS, USAPA, established in 2005 and run by a volunteer board of directors, maintains Pickleball's official rules, sanctions tournaments, provides player rankings and hosts the National Pickleball Tournament. USAPA provides assistance to its members through 1200 local Ambassadors nationwide, traininggrants, physical education programs in schools, and industry outreach; and WHEREAS, in 2014, the City of Paso Robles, in conjunction with the Rec Department and the Paso Robles Pickleball Club, with over 100 members, inaugurated five dedicated Pickleball courts in Centennial Park and have jointly developed an active, local Pickleball program, to include the Annual Paso Robles Pickleball Tournament drawing many player -visitors from a number of states across the country; and WHEREAS, the City of Paso Robles is proud to join in the effort to promote healthy activities such as Pickleball that encourages residents of all ages, abilities and backgrounds to come together and enjoy sportsmanship and healthy competition NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED I, Steve Martin, by virtue of the authority vested in me as Mayor of Paso Robles, California, do hereby proclaim the week of May 9" through May 15', 2016 as `International Pickleball Week" in the City of Paso Robles, California and urge all citizens to join me in promoting the sport of Pickleball throughout our community.
