Subject: Unmet needs
Dear Mayor Marx:
I write to you to affirm my strong concern that the city fulfill its obligation to create a neighborhood
park in the area of north Broad and Foothill to the Hwy 101, area. It has been proposed to do so in
the general plan under 3.12 Unmet Needs for park recreation facilities, specifically listed as number
6. in 3.12. I am not certain the length of years, or decades that this need has been proposed. I
suspect it has been a very great number of years.
The area is highly populated and could seriously use a green space amid all the concrete of the
shopping centers and roadways. There are some spectacular views of the surrounding hills, Santa
Lucia and or Cuesta Grade hills. A greenspace could accommodate folks with benches, tables,
perhaps some sort of lawn games and so forth. This City prides itself on its natural beauty and the
accommodation of its residents with green areas interspersed with all the buildings. As this area is
already so highly filled in, it is imperative for the City to work fast and now to make the proper
survey for available areas and get this park designated.
As the council is set to allot money recently "found" to be available for projects at the Tuesday, 14
June meeting, I am asking on behalf of the potentially 100's of persons who would make full use of
this park. You should also involve the residents of the area as to what they would like to see there in
addition to green grass. There is at least $1-3 million available for this purchase. I believe it is
critical, far above any of the other projects/raises requested by the City Manager and staff.
Please strongly consider and press for this park on the behalf of residents everywhere in SLO. I do
not live in this area but have many friends there and would dearly love to meet there for picnics and
general socializing. SLO is beautiful, but fast changing character. Please conserve property in this
area for the long promised neighborhood park.
Thank you,
