Subject: Fw: Funding for an"unmet need" at Tuesday's City Council meeting

San Luis Obispo, Ca. 93405
Dear City Council,
At this Tuesday's City Council meeting you will have the opportunity to spend almost $6,000,000. I am asking
you to set aside $2,900,000 in a reserve fund for a long -promised City park for the northern neighborhoods of
SLO, cited in the General Plan's Park and Recreation Element as the only area with an "UNMET NEED" for a
park for almost forty years. The General Plan cites the portion of the city from Highway 101 to Foothill Blvd.
near Broad St. and as you realize some of the neighborhoods that would benefit are Anholm, the Foothill area,
Cerro San Luis Foothills, Ferrini Heights, Bishop's Peak Foothills, etc.
As I'm sure you're aware the opportunities to purchase a suitable sized property for a City park are fewer with
each passing year. Our neighborhood has watched as our potential park sites are quickly sold to developers and
we are now at the point where the City must have the park money in reserve so that quick action will occur
when the opportunity to purchase parkland arises.
Please support our neighborhood wellness and multi-age community by granting us our long-awaited
neighborhood park. It would also be a huge benefit to the proposed Broad St. Bike Path to have a
resting/recreating/picnicing spot along the way from Downtown to Foothill. Thank you in advance for doing
something so meaningful for the residents and health of San Luis Obispo neighborhoods.
Warm Regards,
Cheryl McLean
