Subject: Neighborhood Park
Dear Council Members,
I am writing to ask you to place at least $2.8 million of recently realized undedicated funds into a reserve fund
for a "North Broad" neighborhood park. The benefit to the residents of the city and public in general are
enormous, and this type of investment in support of our citizens' lifestyle and recreation opportunities is
necessary in order to reach our shared goals. This identified need in city studies has gone unfunded for far too
long. As the city looks to develop a "bike boulevard" on North Broad street, developing a park in that vicinity
would add another benefit to that project as well, linking the entire city's population to more bike and
recreational facilities.
As a possible location for a North Broad Park, one of the best locations would be the "old frat house" property
at 71 Palomar. This property already has many features desirable for a park: a huge corner lot with street access
on two sides, a hillside location with views, over a hundred trees, and a dense resident population surrounding
it, including families, college students, and The Village.
I hope that each of you will support this idea and direct city staff to work towards creating this asset for the
residents of our city.
Sincerely,
Jim Nett
