Subject: Sandford House 71 Palomar
Dear CHC members,
I am writing this to express my opposition to the proposed 33 unit apartment complex at 71 Palomar. The
Sandford House on the Historic Master List being moved from its original foundation and location on the
historic site is unacceptable. The house is well over one hundred years old and moving it is risky and may well
result in the destruction of this historic gem. It also goes against the recommendations in Secretary of the
Interior's Guidelines and Standards specifically addressing moving a Master Listed Historic building from its
original foundation.
The setting of the stately historic home on its prominent site in combination with the aesthetics of architectural
design, canopy of approximately fifty historic trees and breathtaking vistas looking across to the Santa Lucias
is unique and exudes a feeling of time long ago in San Luis Obispo. The clear -cutting of forty nine magnificent
historic trees, homes to many red -shouldered hawks, red-tailed hawks, owls and other birds, would be a
desecration of beauty and valuable habitat and a lack of consideration regarding Climate Change.
Sincerely,
Susan Steeb
