(0(7--717-016 l "L .. l JUN 27 li06 I read your agenda this morning and saw that you will be discussing the proposed multi family residential development on Palomar. I have only followed this at a couple meetings or listened to discussion addressing this at council under the "for those items not on the agenda". I believe that the overall number of units were reduced from the original submittal. Although I'm sure the surrounding neighborhood will still be disappointed in the fact that this development has been proposed, I do understand their concerns. My point in writing this is just to stress the importance, in my opinion, of the overall need for housing in San Luis Obispo whether that be for sale or rental. I'm pretty sure the neighbors close to this proposed development also know there is a real need for housing, it just happens to be near where they live. As most are aware, the reaction to new housing will bring out the people that are affected the most and most reaming vacant parcels are near established neighborhoods. Thus the conflict. Yes, I'm aware that this certain development does not affect me as its not in my backyard. Unfortunately there is not much R-4 land left to be developed and it is our highest density. I think you need to build to density as much as possible as that, in a small way will help the housing situation. I'm personally a proponent of "infill" housing where possible. If you don't consider building out the infill you may need to expand the boundaries then you face the sprawl issue. We really need the housing so I hope in some way you can relocate the historic structure and come to a mutual and/or compatible decision that the develop and the neighborhood can live with. I'm cautious to say that we are in a housing crisis. I'm sure many of the employers would think we are, just for the problem of recruitment and retention. Thank you for your time and consideration of all involved. Steve Delmartini
